Citrullus lanatus 'Stone Mountain' fruit

It has been our experience that Citrullus lanatus 'Stone Mountain' performs very well in our area in a warm season planting. As with most watermelons, it grows well in rich, well drained soils, including in sandy soils.

Melons ranged in size from giant to medium sized fruits. The fruit has a light green outer rind, that is thick when it is ripe. The inner portion of the rind is white and soft and may also be eaten. The fruit is sweet, but has a softer texture than other watermelons.

Citrullus lanatus 'Stone Mountain' was created in 1923 and was a popular commercial watermelon in the South in the 1930's and 1940's.
